The Ghana Evangelical Society (GES) is seeking a highly capable and versatile Accounting Officer to support the Ministerial team and the congregation in the core mission of:

  • Evangelization of Ghana, Africa and the world.
  • Catalyzing the attainment of Unity in the Church
  • Rebuilding of the Broken Walls of Ghana to restore her as a Christian nation
  • Through 50 years, the GES ministry has impacted the church and nation building tremendously.

  • It has caused the salvation of many souls and revitalized churches. The Society blazed the trail in making Pentecostalism and Charismaticism popular, It has trained many Men of God and raised many ministries.
  • It has been a veritable resource to the Church – teaching about the Holy Spirit, who He is, His work and influence within the church.
  • It has promoted righteousness, promoted peace, and helped the democratic process in Ghana to thrive.
  • It has dispelled idolatry, and diffused, or toned down superstition, which was hitherto very rife, and removed fear among our people.
  • The Role
    Accountable to the Assistant Leader, the Accounting Officer would prepare the Ministry’s accounts under the leadership of the Director of Administration. Tasks include:
    1. Treasury Functions
    a. Accounts Payables Management

  • Maintaining documentation for reimbursements
  • Ensuring all invoices / reimbursement claim forms are properly settled before deadlines
  • b. Accounts Receivables Management

  • Reconciling with bank for offerings, tithes and pledges deposited
  • Administering official receipts issuance process
  • Preparing preliminary reports of offertory received for past weeks for monthly bulletins of all worship services
  • c. Payroll Management

  • Payroll and related statutory payments
  • d. Banking

  • To be the Ministry’s first contact & liaison point with the bank
  • Making deposits and authorized withdrawals
  • Requesting Bank Statements for Bank reconciliation statements
  • e. Insurance

  • Administering insurance renewals including premium payment
  • Liaising with insurance broker and insurance company
  • f. Other Treasury-related Duties

  • Liaising with Accounts personnel of all the Ministry’s Worship Centres and training them, if required, with the proper discharge of their respective treasury duties
  • Maintaining proper filing system and archive for all treasury work
  • Providing guidance to the leadership on financial management and any other treasury duties that may be assigned by them
  • 2. Accounting Function

  • Accounting System - To process financial transactions with appropriate Accounting software.
  • Reports - to prepare financial reports monthly and as requested
  • Annual Reports - To prepare annual financial statements for approval of the Board (Elders in Council), and supervise the laying of these reports to the appropriate state agencies
  • Audit - To coordinate with the external auditors for the annual audit
  • Taxation - To process Withholding Tax calculations and filing of income tax returns of employees of the Ministry
  • Other accounting duties that may be assigned by the Elders in Council

  • Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree

    Requirements
    • Key Selection Criteria
    • Must be a mature, baptized Christian with a strong commitment and belief in the teachings, values, and mission of the Church
    • Hold a degree or equivalent in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, and/or first level passes of CIMA, CA (Ghana), ACCA, or similar Professional bodies
    • Appropriate accounting experience e.g., payroll, accounts payable and bank reconciliation, and experience with accounting software. Knowledge of Quickbooks will be an advantage
    • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professional discretion
    • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation with a service orientation
    • Highly organised, including demonstrated ability to prioritise and meet deadlines across multiple concurrent tasks
    • A high level of computer literacy, including expertise in EXCEL and the Microsoft Office suite
    • Strong in attention to details
    • Intercultural communication skills
    • Demonstrates a welcoming and inclusive attitude towards others
    • Flexible and willing to jump in wherever needed
