A vacancy exists in our Safety Health & Security Department for the position of: SAFETY ADVISOR
JOB PURPOSE
The Safety Advisor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines in the workplace. The incumbent will play a crucial role of promoting a safe working environment by advising on safety measures, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing preventative measures in all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply key elements of the Asanko Safety Management System in various operational areas, such as Processing, Projects, Mining, Exploration, Administration areas as well as Contractors;
Develop processes and procedures that integrate behaviors into the system;
Lead operational teams in facilitating and reviewing Baseline Risk Assessments (Biannual), WRACs, JHAs, Individual Risk Assessments, and Take 5s, and ensure compliance as and when required;
Develop schedules and conduct critical control monitoring with Supervisors.
Conduct incident investigations using appropriate investigation techniques such as ICAM to determine root causes;
Apply behavior-based safety techniques in development and roll out safety training, pre-shift information and other interventions;
Conduct safety audits and inspections and monitor stakeholders for remedial compliance in line with statutory and legal requirements;
Implement the Asanko contractor management procedure and ensure compliance in respective Asanko and Contractor operational;
Ensure appropriate safety documentation and record keeping in accordance with the management systems requirements;
Observe and assess staff who may be demonstrating signs of stress and intervene as appropriate by informing their area Supervisor/Manager;
Advise employees in the area of any potential threat and/or initiate evacuation procedures;
Restrict access to incident scenes and surrounding areas and take necessary action to minimize any threat to health and safety;
Coordinate further response actions with Incident Commander and local responders;
Confirm safety aspects on site, including need for personal protective equipment, sources of ignition, and potential need for evacuation;
Perform other related duties that may be assigned by supervisor.
