The Locum Biomedical Scientist (BS) will be primarily responsible for providing quality laboratory services to clients in the health facility in accordance with the standards of Allied Health Professions Council and standard operating procedures as set by MSI RCL. This position will be based at the MSI RCL Ghana Premier Centre at Tesano in Accra and the candidate will contribute to organization-wise strategy and model key leadership behaviours in line with the Evolving Model strategy and values of MSI RCL Ghana.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to planning and development of activities for improvement in laboratory diagnostic services
  • Supervise and ensure the provision of accurate laboratory reports within acceptable turnaround times.
  • Oversee the monitoring of turnaround times and management of internal and external quality control measures.
  • Supervise the delivery of laboratory tests to ensure efficient and quality delivery of lab services
  • Undertake technical validation and reproducibility test of laboratory instrumental analysis to ensure accuracy and precision as specified by laboratory protocols
  • Ensure strict adherence to preventive maintenance schedules of all laboratory instruments at all times
  • Manage quality control failures or loss of performance of laboratory instruments or methods and make referrals when indicated
  • Interprets laboratory results and take appropriate actions eg. Advising clinical care team when need arises.
  • Make use of laboratory information management system in accordance with authorized protocols
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate laboratory database
  • Advise in the procurement of laboratory reagents, capital equipment and day to day running cost when need arises
  • Strong leadership in the management of laboratory
  • Other assignments/target benchmarks as directed by management and/or board

  • Education Required: First Degree

    Requirements
    • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    • A 1st degree and Medical Lab Sciences from a recognized institution
    • Certification from Allied Health Professional Council
    • Minimum of 2 years practical work experience, preferably in a supervisory role with a laboratory department.
    • Proficiency in computer software, including word processing, excel, spread sheet and presentation applications.
    • Sound knowledge of the laboratory Industry.
    • People management and leadership skills
    • Ability to work with manual and automated laboratory equipment
    • Ability to undertake technical validation and reproducibility checks of laboratory instrumental analysis
    • Ability to advise and counsel on specific procedures
    • Ability to train staff on laboratory related topics
