Aikins Educational Consult has been in the business of teaching Standardized test as well as preparing students for other external entrance exams over the past 6years.Over the years we have successfully tutored and placed over 400 students from different backgrounds and academic strengths in reputable schools and institutions outside the shores of Ghana.These successes have been achieved with adequate planning and a determination to work according to our mantra that says "Education is a mission,not a profession".In the course of our work,we have determined a fine structure of teaching that helps our students maximize the benefits they obtain from our classes.

highly-ranked schools stifled by the poor teaching and study methods pervasive on the Ghanaian test preparation market.The situation is quite worrying when one considers that the skills required to perform creditably in these test lies in following sound pedagogy and combining it with effective learning skills;concepts that when taught properly,will stay with the student through their educational career.Our entry interview and diagnostic testing with some students joined our programs revealed another worrying situation where they were not taught test-taking sills and this became obvious in their inability to side-step time -wasting snares that are always found in the standardized tests.Bad results rarely results from a student being intellectually poor.Surprisingly intelligent students flunk the test due to poor question answering techniques.

Another problem that faces students in the sub-region comes from the transition from the learning-by-rote-system that is prevalent in most of our schools to the reasoning-oriented studies required by these tests.

THE TESTS: GMAT,GRE,SAT,ACT,TOEFL,IELTS, SOA and CFA.

At Aikins educational consult,we trust in the ability of the student to excel through the guidance of tutors who themselves are mostly past test-takers and understand what it takes to participate in and to ace a standardized test.Typically, our teaching and learning schedules span a period of 6-8 weeks.During this period, we effectively prepare our students to obtain success in the test.The excellent results assess achieved by focusing and/or carrying out the following:

The psychology of the student:Self-confidence of the student is key to achieving excellent result.Several students approach us dreading the test but leave the consult with a new outlook - one of confidence and resolve to succeed.This can be attributed to the sound mental coaching we offer at the consult and the readiness of our tutors to work on building the morale of the students and to instill a winning mentality in them.

Weekly and Surprise Tests: At Aikins Educational Consult,we believe that each student should study as if the test is to be written in the next 24 hours.As such, apart from the regular test which we write every Friday,unannounced sectional tests are administered at random to assess to preparedness of students and to evaluate their understanding of the specific topics and tricky concepts.

Well-structured Curriculum:At this consult,our priority is to ensure that all bases are covered before the test date.To achieve these,we have well-structured curricula which detail the scheduling of activities, the aim and objectives of those activities and the means of assessment at the end of the activities.This is to ensure that students have a means of charting their own progress and measuring the value of the knowledge they have acquired.

Peer teaching:One unique feature of this consult is the concept of peer teaching which we employ.This concept seeks to bolster confidence in the students by gradually easing them into extemporaneous public speaking that they will encounter in colleges outside Ghana and most importantly to learn concepts and appreciate of their peers.It is co-ordinated by a tutor who documents and provides comments after the student-led-teaching session,ensuring that the whole class is moving in tandem and if not,students requiring special attention are efficiently attended to.

Diagnostic Testing:One important component of our teaching methodology is determining the strengths of our prospective students by administering free diagnostic test.The results of this test serve as the reference point for teaching and learning efforts over the period of the program and to determine the amount of private tuition needed by a student.
