Underground Mining Alliance Ltd. (“UMA”) is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited (AUMS) and Rocksure International carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti (Obuasi) Mine. 


UMA is seeking to employ qualified, experienced, and motivated Electrical Pump Fitter to join our Electrical Team. This is Obuasi based Fixed Term position with a competitive work roster at its operations in Obuasi. Remuneration package includes attractive salary and performance-based incentive payments for the right candidates.

Electrical Pump Fitter

Reporting to the Electrical Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical pump systems essential to our mining operations. This role requires a proactive and safety-oriented individual with a solid background in handling electrical and mechanical pump systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect and maintain various types of pumps, including submersible, centrifugal, and diaphragm pumps, essential for water and slurry movement.
  • Set up pumps and associated equipment in accordance with mining operation needs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and preventive measures to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and repair pump systems and related electrical circuits, ensuring prompt repairs such as replacing parts, rewiring, and system recalibration and minimal downtime.
  • Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot and identify electrical or mechanical issues.
  • Test electrical components using multimeters, insulation testers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Inspect and test electrical components, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor performance and report on system operations, identifying and resolving issues swiftly.
  • Ensure safety by adhering to all mining safety protocols and using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Complete various daily, weekly, monthly reports as required.
  • Be open to learning new methods and be willing to share your skills and knowledge with co-workers
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping in the shop and at job sites

  • Education Required: BSc

    Requirements
    • Must possess a minimum of BSc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from a recognized University with minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines   or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a Hard Rock Underground Mines 
    • Must be conversant with the Mining Act and related regulations of the Republic of Ghana.
    • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and able to drive manual SUV underground.
    • Capable of handling equipment, working in confined spaces, and adapting to site conditions.
    • Ability to influence and engage with operational and non-operational employees and contractors with strong demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in electrical pump systems, circuits, and mechanical components.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
    • Experience using tools such as multimeters, diagnostic software, and electrical testing equipment.
    • Ability to learn new tasks quickly as well as train, coach, and mentor crew members
    • Ability to work under pressure and have the desire to achieve
    • A strong focus toward safety and hazard identification.
    • Strong sense of urgency and outcomes focused
    • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment 
    • Ability to work both day and night.
