Abt. Global Inc., a US-based company, is implementing USAID–funded President’s Malaria Initiative Evolve project. The project supports the implementation of malaria vector control strategies such as bednet distribution and indoor residual spraying (IRS). In Ghana, Abt has been implementing IRS in the northern areas since 2011 and is currently preparing for the 2024 IRS campaign under the PMI Evolve Project, Ghana.

Abt is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill temporary positions for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Assistants (33 positions) in the following sub-districts:

Responsibilities of the IEC Assistants

  • Spearhead mobilization of all communities in assigned sub-district in ways that sustain high spray coverage areas and improve coverage in underperforming areas.
  • Lead implementation of communication strategies in assigned sub-district to ensure ALL community-level stakeholders participate in the spray campaign and to exceed the minimum spray coverage target that ensures communal protection.
  • Liaise with community leadership, GHS officials, District Assembly staff and communication agencies to support IRS community mobilization and sensitization efforts. 
  • Coordinate closely daily IEC and mobilization activities with the Site Manager of assigned sub-district and IRS Coordinator.
  • Manage and work closely with identified community mobilizers to ensure all households in each community are fully prepared and participate in the campaign.
  • Facilitate training, coordinate, and supervise activities of IEC Mobilizers and all other actors involved in mobilization within assigned sub-district during the implementation of IRS.
  • Supervise and ensure proper documentation of ASSIGNED mobilization attendance for payment.
  • Provide weekly reports on activities to the IRS Coordinator and IEC Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the IRS Coordinator and IEC Manager. 

  • Education Required: Diploma

    Requirements
    • Minimum of a Diploma in community development studies, communication, or relevant field with at least two (2) years relevant work experience.
    • Additional training and/or experience in participatory approaches and community mobilization is essential to this role.
    • VERY GOOD knowledge and understanding of the geographical layout (especially of the chosen sub-district) is key to this position.
    • Ability to work under pressure with little supervision is essential.
    • Strong organizational, reporting and management skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team and lead a team of IEC Mobilizers working under the operations site.  
    • Strong computer skills in MS Excel and MS Word is needed.
    • Proficiency in English and one or more of the northern Ghanaian languages (Mampruli, Dagbanli, Moar, Basare, Anufu and Likpakpaln dialect for chosen sub-district) is required.
    • Previous work on IRS activities will be an advantage.
    • Being a native/ resident in any of the sub-districts will be an advantage.  
    • MUST be able to ride a motorcycle and MUST HAVE a valid motorcycle driver’s license.
