Abt. Global Inc., a US-based company, is implementing USAID–funded President’s Malaria Initiative Evolve project. The project supports the implementation of malaria vector control strategies such as bednet distribution and indoor residual spraying (IRS). In Ghana, Abt has been implementing IRS in the northern areas since 2011 and is currently preparing for the 2024 IRS campaign under the PMI Evolve Project, Ghana.

Abt Global is seeking qualified individuals to fill temporary positions for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Assistants at each of the following 28 sub-districts. Successful candidates will be contracted for up to 3 months.

Successful candidates are REQUIRED to be based in the assigned sub-districts. No lodging support is provided. Qualified candidates residing in the selected sub-districts above will have an advantage. Successful candidates will be contracted for up to 3 months and report to the Indoor Residual Spray (IRS) Coordinator and MEL Manager.

Prior to recruitment, selected candidates will go through training to get oriented to the job tasks and responsibilities. The MEL Assistants will be supervised by the District IRS Coordinator and report to the Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager.

Responsibilities of MEL Assistant

  • Train IRS seasonal workers on MEL, data collection tools and procedures
  • Supervise field data collections and provide on-the-spot solutions to the data collection errors including troubleshooting issues with electronic tablets and data entry
  • Perform data collection verification in project-supported communities
  • Coach personnel on data capture and verification
  • Ensure timely delivery of mobile tablets from the field to the district data center  
  • Supervise Data Entry Assistants to follow protocols for data cleaning and syncing
  • Assist the District IRS Coordinator and Site Managers to draw daily spray operations and supervision plans
  • Ensure tablets for mobile data collection are fully charged, have enough data bundle and are in good shape
  • Complete the Community Performance Monitoring Tracker and interpret for decision making and planning.
  • Provide technical support for mobile data collection
  • Produce weekly spray data progress reports for the assigned district
  • Analyze spray data to inform decisions for spray operations in the assigned operational sites
  • Perform other duties as maybe assigned by the IRS Coordinator and/or the program MEL Manager.

  • Education Required: HND

    Requirements
    • Minimum of Higher National Diploma in statistics, computer science or a related field
    • Experience in field data collection with demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate large scale data collection exercise
    • Knowledgeable and experienced in data analysis and interpretation
    • Good organizational, report writing and management skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
    • Strong computer skills with good understanding of the use of MS Excel
    • Confirmation of completion of the free DHIS2 course on https://academy.dhis2.org /
    • Candidate will have added advantage if s/he:Is proficient in one or more languages spoken in the IRS districts   
    • Has previous work experience in IRS.
    • Is willing to live and travel within the district assigned.
    • Ability to ride a motorbike and possess a valid (motorbike) license is a MUST
