Arela Chemicals is revolutionizing the way food grade liquefied carbon dioxide is produced for local beverage makers in Ghana. Thanks to an innovative manufacturing plant, biogas generated by the anaerobic digestion of locally sourced maize stover is upgraded to liquefied CO2, increasing the sustainability and profitability of maize farmers as well as carbonated beverage producers. Moreover, this biogas will also be used to generate 100% of the plant’s energy needs, allowing off-grid operation and enabling the compression of excess methane into bio-CNG for extra revenue. By eliminating expensive and unreliable electricity and cutting down the carbon footprint of its operations, Arela Chemicals is able to offer up to a 50% discount on liquefied CO2 costs to beverage makers.
